Your Wonderful Winter Wardrobe!
Somewhere in the world winter is just around the corner, and people are gearing up for cold days and colder nights! It won’t be long before the weather outside is frightful, Jack Frost is nipping at your nose, and you will be walking in a winter wonderland! As temperatures drop and the chill winds blow it’s important to be prepared with a proper selection of winter clothes that will keep you safe, warm, and looking stylish! The following is our guide to winter wardrobe essentials!
Winter Coat – This is the number one item on this list and your shopping list, the piece of winter gear that you will wear the most and that will do the most to protect you from the elements! Our ancestors relied on hunting animals for their fur coats to stay warm, now we can accomplish the same effect without the violence by donning faux fur jackets that look amazing and are guaranteed to feel cozy! Our recommendation is to go with bright, unnatural colours to show you aren’t wearing real fur, and lower the chance that an animal rights activist will pour paint on you! Purple leopard spots on orange, or blue tiger stripes on white look wild and woolly and guarantee they can find you when you get stuck in a snow drift!
Winter Hat – There are way too many hat styles to list, so we will just share some of our favourites!
- Stocking Cap – Wool is the best material for these, and any style goes! Close-fitting beanie, pointy hats, long drooping points that come down over your shoulders, whatever tickles your fancy! They come in all colours of the rainbow, you can look like a robber with your black beanie, an elf with your green pointy hat, or that jolly old fellow from the North Pole in a red drooping point hat, just make sure you line it with fake white fur! Add stripes for more fun!
- Ushanka – These are the iconic Russian winter hats that the cast of Dr Zhivago are sporting! There are several different styles, but they are all big, round, fuzzy, and tall! Most are in natural colours like white, brown, and black. These are guaranteed to catch the eyes of passers-by, tovarisch!
- Beret – While not strictly a winter hat, this chic headgear is in style all year round! Soft felt is great for warm weather, but you need to go with wool to keep your head warm, plus it looks magnifique! Classic colours are red and black, but pick your favourite! Be advised that in some countries green will make people think you are a soldier or possibly a girl scout!
- Trapper Hat – OK, so let’s face it- this is not a glamorous style choice with the ear flaps and woolly lining, but if it gets really cold this is the one you want on your head as temperatures hit zero!
Winter Pants – There seem to be two camps on these- tight-fitting form huggers, and big and baggy! Choose a material that will be warming but still breathe, and is at least somewhat water resistant for deep snow!
Gloves – We can only wonder if the kittens ever found their mittens, but it’s a cinch that a pair of these will keep your mitts warm and show that you are all in with the winter spirit! We love thick and woolly of course, and bold bright colours are never gauche with mittens, in fact, they are your chance to show off your silly side with knitted pictures of reindeer, evergreen trees, or other wintery emblems!
We hope you have a fabulous time this winter looking fabulous!
